Eagle's Eye - The Lake District
The Lake District is one of the most beautiful areas of England. But most view it from the valleys or the passes. Now you can see the Lake District from an entirely new perspective - the air - putting the mountains and lakes into a new perspective.
We visit Ullswater, named after an early Viking chief. Winderemere is England's largest natural lake, and the towns on it shoreline are honey pots for tourists. At its nothern end are the remains of the Roman fort of Gallava.
But the Lake District is as much about mountains as lakes. It's home to the highest mountain in England, and there's some superb fell-walking to be found. From the air we see the popularity of the pastime, and witness an RAF search and rescue helicopter on an exercise to rescue an injured walker.
Further north, Keswick is overshadowed by Skiddaw, one of three peaks in the area which tops 3,000. Close by is Bassenthwaite Lake, the Lake District's most northerly body of water.
Eagle's Eye presents you with your best view of the Lake District. And whether you're a frequent visitor or admire it from afar, you'll find this programme fascinating and informative.
