Manx Steam Railway News

A Journey on The Isle of Man Steam Railway takes us on board engine number 4, Loch for the 56 minute journey from coast to coast, and you'll get a taste for the action like never before. As you'd expect from Great Railway Videos we've really gone to town on the production. No fewer than five cameras record all the action. From the footplate to the smoke stack view you'll see the whole trip from a better vantage point than even the driver enjoys! And now it's also available in stunning High Definition on Blu-Ray disc.

The Isle of Man Steam Railway is a beautifully preserved narrow-gauge Victorian Heritage railway set in the spectacular scenery of the Manx countryside. It runs for nearly 16 miles from Douglas, the Island's capital, to Port Erin on the west coast. The line dates from 1874, and it still boasts the original engines and rolling stock which make this railway so special. Preview a section of it above.

With 5 cameras to show five different angles you'll see more of what's going on, both on and off the train. It's a spectacular ride which puts you at the very heart of the action. But that's not all!

A Journey on The Isle of Man Steam Railway offers two soundtracks to choose from. The commentary track gives you everything - the wonderful sound of the locomotive accompanied by informative, knowledgable commentary to explain what you're seeing -and provides the historical background of the Isle of Man Steam Railway. But if you'd rather just immerse yourself in the enthralling pictures and the sound of a steam engine, turn off the commentary and you're good to go.

free bonus extras

We want to give you the best value we can, so we've come up with two fantastic bonus extras for your added enjoyment which are included on the A Journey on the Isle of Man Steam Railway DVD.

The first is Transports of Delight, a specially made unique 20 minute programme which shows the Isle of Man's three Victorian transport systems - the Isle of Man Steam Railway, the Manx Electric Railway, and the Snaefell Mountain Railway. This beautifully shot and produced programme also takes you behind the scenes at the Steam Railway's Douglas depot to see the work that goes on to keep the rolling stock in pristine condition. And if you've ever dreamed of being an engine driver, there's even a pocket course to set you up for a trip on the footplate. Manx Steam Railway News described this free bonus as being worth the cover price alone!

And if that's still not enough, we've re-interpreted the famous 1952 BBC film of London to Brighton in four minutes to bring you Douglas to Port Erin in four minutes, viewed from the prime spot on top of engine number 4, Loch. It's the perfect way to round off this exclusive viewing experience on the Isle of Man Steam Railway.
